Hello everyone and welcome to this weeks episode of C9 Rewind, your weekly source for current news in the film and tech industries.
This week, rumors are being circulated about the Iphone 12, the Canon R5 and R6 are finally released to mixed reactions, and more!
New iPhone 12 Leaks
With the release of the iPhone 12 looming over our heads with a usual September announcement expected, there are multiple rumors that suggest Apple is going to switch it up a bit this year.
A new leak that has surfaced online reveals that the iPhone 12 might be going back to a more compact form factor.
The device in these images is apparently a dummy iphone 12 with a 5.4 inch bezel-less display, which would make it smaller than both the iPhone 10 and 11.
Of course, Apple will probably release a larger version like they have in the past but I’m glad to see the return of a more compact form factor, it kinda looks like a larger version of the iphone 5s.
Also, there are multiple rumors from Apple analysts that suggest a charger and EarPods will not be included in the box with the next iPhone.
Is this the start of a transition to a “port-less” iPhone? Or is Apple just trying to cut costs and give us less for the same amount of money?
We will find out in September but I think they should let us decide if we want a charger included and if we don’t, throw us a $10 gift card in it’s place, I might be getting too greedy though.
Canon Rebel T8i Finally Available
Announced allll the way back on Valentine’s Day (which feels like forever ago) the Canon Rebel T8i is now in stock at certain retailers.
The successor to the Rebel T7i, it brings some key imprvoements to Canons entry-level line of DSLR’s including the addition of 4K video up to 25fps (along with 1080p up to 60fps), with 5-Axis Movie Digital image stablization for smooth, controlled footage.
Now that it’s finally becoming available, it should offer a worthy update for many DSLR users.
All in all, these Rebel cameras sell because they get the job done for most users and even with the 80D at a similar price point, I feel like this camera will sell well.
London Film Festival Going Partly Virtual
Shifting focus to the film indsutry, the London Film Festival The London Film Festival is planning a vastly changed program split between virtual premieres, talks and premieres in cinemas across the world.
Audiences at home will be able to watch 50 screenings digitally and, in a shake-up, viewers will have the chance to vote on Audience Awards.
As covered in previous episodes of C9 Rewind, I think this is the future of award shows, going all virtual will cater to a younger audience and open a new door of possibilities for audience voting and virtual exhibitions.
Canon EOS R5 Changes the Game
Finally, the Canon EOS R5 and R6 are now officially available to the public!
The EOS R5 is the top-tier camera in the company’s RF lens-mount mirrorless system, bringing a 45-megapixel full-frame sensor that’s capable of 8K video capture (which is new in the mirrorless world).
When it comes to outright potential, this thing is a beast on paper, with a Dual Pixel CMOS AF II autofocus system, 4K vidoe up to 120fps, and ultra-resolution electronic viewfinder, plus a 3-inch vari-angle LCD touchscreen.
It looks as though Canon has caught up in a race they have been lagging behind in for years and I would love to get my hands on one of these for a comparison.
Will it cause Sony to rethink its A7S3 launch later this summer? Will it change the mirror-less world forever? We shall see.
Until Next Time
