From a cinematography standpoint this is one of my favorite films of the year and probably pretty high up of all time. I’m a big fan of anyone going for a natural but toned look to the image and the dystopian bleakness of the situation is well represented in how it was captured.  Director and DP Reed Morano really did something special here and risked a lot going for a super dark look in many scenes, but it pushed the envelope just right in my opinion to deliver an incredible look.

I didn’t know a lot about the relationship between these two tennis players, but this story does an excellent job of showing two polar opposite personalities and how that affects them both inside and outside of their profession. Shia Labouf gave a pretty moving performance as John McEnroe.

We’re sure you’ve already been told about how great this film was or have probably noticed an increase in Queen songs being played in basically everywhere you go. It was no mistake why the buzz has been unavoidable. The story of Freddy Mercury and his struggles was extremely well detailed, captured, and portrayed making this over 2 hour film feel like it flies by you with each chapter. Epic is the best way to sum up this Blockbuster and I could really go for some more Legacy type cinematic films.(cough cough Michael Jackson) It’s a shame some lady decided to come into the theater about an hour in (during the very sad climax) and make as much noise as humanly possible until she was inevitably kicked out, but even with that the film was thoroughly enjoyable.

The Death of Stalin Movie

The Death of Stalin

A dark comedy that somehow managed to make Stalin’s death and subsequent struggle for power not only funny but entertaining. Steve Buscemi as Khrushchev was a bit of a show stealer and he seemed to carry the film throughout, but his supporting cast kept right up every step of the way.

This new film is going to create a whole new category for movies and filmmaking. With the ability to have the audience choose certain acts and make decisions on how the story plot is going to unfold, this will bring a new way audiences can be entertained. Create your own ending in a well developed script that can have many different outcomes based on your decisions.

24 Frames Movie

Abbas Kiarostami has been one of my favorite directors since a friend showed me A Taste of Cherry years ago and while 24 Frames isn’t much of a narrative, it’s an insanely strong experimental film and is Kiarostami style through-and-through. I’d say if you’re into a film like Baraka and enjoy beautiful imagery, this will keep your attention.  It certainly kept mine.

Three Identical Strangers Documentary

This is not your typical documentary where you mostly know what to expect when seeing the trailer or reading about it. The once famous “Three Identical Strangers” of New York went through one of the craziest discoveries in their late teens when finding out they each had 2 identical twins wandering around the city. There was fame, endorsement and plenty of great memories made between these three in the early stages of re-becoming brothers but the more the story unravels the more we find out why they never met or knew about each other.

Mandy Movie Nicolas Cage

Nick Cage in a crazy over the top LSD fueled horror-fest stylized in a B movie fashion. That’s about all that needs to be said.  See it as soon as humanely possible.

Sorry to Bother You Movie

Now this film almost has me speechless attempting to explain its purpose, but at the same time had magnificent and almost obvious symbolism with a strong message. My best advice is to watch it for yourself. If your a fan of obscure and untraditional storylines and set design then this is the bees knees. All in all the film had a great aesthetic and Lakeith Stanfield was the perfect cast for this role.

Bird Box Movie

The endless Bird Box memes flooding my timeline forced me to give in and watch the movie. And it was okay. The plot is similar to The Happening (without the horrendous acting) but I had to add it this list because as a marketer, I was blown away with the viral response to the movie. Never underestimate the power of memes! Many speculate memes played a vital role in electing Trump president and now memes have propelled an average at best movie to becoming the most watched movie over its first week in the history of Netflix.
